About Game Design Degrees
One place to compare game design, game programming, simulation and animation degrees, using federal data and schools' own program pages rather than reputation surveys.
The siteWhat This Site Is
Game Design Degrees compares 354 college programs in game design, game programming, simulation and animation across the United States, on campus and online, and pairs them with what the jobs they lead to pay. Program counts, completions, costs, graduation rates and admissions come from IPEDS and the College Scorecard, the Department of Education's data on every college that takes federal aid. Pay and job outlook come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and O*NET. Every page lists its sources at the bottom, with the date they were read.
RankingsHow We Rank
Each ranking comes from a published formula that scores programs on published figures: completion (40 points), net price (40) and program size (20) for bachelor's degrees, and graduate tuition (60) and program size (40) for master's, with a fixed number of points for each. A school cannot pay to move up, and the full scoring is on the methodology page.

Kevin To graduated from Temple University in 2025 with a B.S. in Computer Science and works as a web developer at Savo Group. He has always been into technology, and away from work he plays video games and follows sports and sports analytics.
When he was choosing a college, he didn’t know how to tell which programs fit what he wanted to explore. He started Game Design Degrees to help prospective students find the game design, game programming or animation program that fits them.
Game Design Degrees is the result. Kevin researches and writes the site’s content, drawing on public federal data from IPEDS, the College Scorecard, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, O*NET and the Census Bureau, and on schools’ own program pages. He also designed and built the site itself, from the ranking methodology to the front-end code.
The site is published by Savo Group, a digital marketing agency specializing in organic SEO and web design.
DisclosureAdvertising Disclosure
Game Design Degrees is not affiliated with any school it ranks. It may carry advertising or paid program links in the future; here is what that does and does not change.
-
The rankings are editorial
Compensation does not affect the formula, the weights, the scores or the order in which programs appear. A school cannot pay to move up or to be left out.
-
Paid placements would be labeled
The site carries no sponsored listings or paid program links today. If it does, they will be marked and kept apart from the ranked lists, and if we are paid when a reader enrolls through one, that will not change what the reader pays.
-
Career and salary pages carry no commercial relationship
The career guides and salary pages are written for information only. Their figures come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and O*NET and are reported the same way regardless of any partnership.
